By contrast with former contributions which looked mainly at Nicholas Mavrocordatos’ work from a literary standpoint, the present article is focusing chiefly on his correspondence. The aim is to highlight some aspects of Romanian history and history writing and the portrait of the prince himself. Written in an impeccable kind of mainly ancient Greek and displaying erudition and awareness of contemporary facts the letters set up a picture of a seasoned ruler.
